Cement is the "glue" that is ever present in our world. From humble village dwellings to large metropolitan areas, cement and concrete are vital components to most people's living environment. I travelled to Lehigh Cement situated outside of Picton Ontario on Picton Bay to join the Stephen B Roman - a dry cement carrier for her journey to Toronto.
Built in 1965 by the Davie Shipyard at Lauzon Quebec as a packaged freight carrier, she was converted to a bulk cement carrier at the Collingwood Shipyards in 1983. She is yet another example of our Canadian shipbuilding heritage soon to disappear from the landscape as she is nearing retirement.
